The first ten minutes
  1. 01Nothing is on fire. A repipe is planned work — you have time, and time is your leverage.
  2. 02Ask each plumber for a fixture count and a linear-foot figure, not a lump sum.
  3. 03Get the scope in writing on whether drywall repair, permits and fixture reconnection are inside the price.

04
Upsells to refuse
  • A whole-house repipe quoted when one section of pipe failed and a targeted repair was never priced.
  • Copper quoted as necessary when PEX meets code for the same run at a fraction of the labour.
  • Drywall repair, permits and re-fixturing left out of the quote and billed after the walls are open.
05
When it is legitimately more

Slab routing, limited access, or copper takes it to $9,000–$15,000 and beyond. A California source cited $8,000–$11,000 for a 1,500 sq ft San Jose house, which is what a high-wage metro does to a labour-heavy job.

Where this number comes from

National band from published US cost guides, 2026 editions. Adjusted for this metro by scaling only the labour share of the job by the metro's median plumber wage against the national median of $34.70/hr (BLS OEWS, May 2025). Parts are not scaled.

Comparable quotes from this metro in our Price book: 0. This band is derived from national guides and local wage data, not from local quotes. We will say so on this page until it is not true.

If you think a figure here is wrong, write to pricebook@getitplumming.com with the quote. Corrections go into the next edition and we do not argue with an invoice.

A 2026 repipe cost guide and Angi's repipe article both put PEX on a 1,500 sq ft, two-bath house at roughly $4,500–$8,500 with normal access.
