The first ten minutes
  1. 01Shut the main before you call anyone. It is the single highest-value thing you will do tonight.
  2. 02Ask on the phone for the call-out fee and the after-hours multiplier, and write both down.
  3. 03Ask whether the fee is credited against the work. Many shops credit it and do not volunteer that.
03
DIY or pro

Pro by definition — but the first ten minutes are yours, and shutting the main is free.

04
Upsells to refuse
  • An after-hours multiplier applied to a job that could plainly wait until 8am once the main is off.
  • A call-out fee charged and then not credited against the repair.
  • A diagnosis given verbally at 2am with a lump-sum price and no line items.
05
When it is legitimately more

Holiday call-outs are documented at $500–$600/hr. If the water is already off, that is a rate you can decline until morning.

Where this number comes from

National band from published US cost guides, 2026 editions. Adjusted for this metro by scaling only the labour share of the job by the metro's median plumber wage against the national median of $34.70/hr (BLS OEWS, May 2025). Parts are not scaled.

Comparable quotes from this metro in our Price book: 0. This band is derived from national guides and local wage data, not from local quotes. We will say so on this page until it is not true.

If you think a figure here is wrong, write to pricebook@getitplumming.com with the quote. Corrections go into the next edition and we do not argue with an invoice.

Angi's emergency plumber guide puts the average emergency rate at $170/hr against a standard $45–$200/hr, with a service or diagnostic fee of $100–$250 and a surcharge of 1.5×–3× normal rate, up to 3× on holidays.
